Eight Practices Of Effective Leaders

Effective leaders come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be found at all levels of an organization. While this Harvard Business Review article speaks of executive leadership, we believe these principals apply to everyone.

Eight practices of effective leaders:

  • Ask, “What needs to be done?”
  • Ask, “What is right for the enterprise?”
  • Develop action plans.
  • Take responsibility for your decisions.
  • Take responsibility for communicating effectively.
  • Focus on opportunities rather than problems.
  • Be fully prepared for productive meetings.
  • Think and say “we” rather than “I.”

The first two practices give you the knowledge you need. The next four help convert this knowledge into effective action. The last two keep you feeling responsible and accountable.
